Top Ten Tuesday

I thought I'd introduce a new blogging feature, Top Ten Tuesday. This is nothing new. Perhaps a lot of people are doing something like this already. This was inspired from the creators of the idea, the book bloggers: The Broke and the Bookish. And since my blog doesn't exclusively talk about books, I thought I'd share with you Top Ten of anything I can think of. Be it my top favorite movies, quotes, beauty regimens, or things to thank for. The topics are limitless - so there'd be no reason to run out of things to write. And I encourage you to do the same. Just write top ten of anything that says something about yourself. :)

So for my first ever Top Ten Tuesday feature, let me talk about my top ten favorite tv series. I know, I know. I have already told you a thousand times that I don't watch TV. Yes, I don't. But I do have some days of binge-watching my favorite series in one day. This is the reason why I hate the waiting game, and that's why I haven't watched Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead yet. Haha. Don't judge. :)

My Top Ten Favorite TV Series (in order):

1. Burn Notice
It's not just the car chases and explosions. I can give a hundredfold reasons how this show is awesome. But I won't do that. There are probably a thousands written about it anyway (or I could be wrong because this show seems to be unpopular and underrated). However, I'll share with you one of the many cunning spy tips I have learned watching all seven seasons of Burn Notice: Guns make you stupid. Duct tape makes you smart. Take it literally or figuratively, either way, you win. :)

"There are some fights you just can't win. A force can be so overwhelming that no tactical approach in a fight is going to lead to a victory worth having. When you can't win in a fight, sometimes you have to settle for making sure that if you lose, everyone loses. It works for nuclear weapons; it works for me." - Michael Westen

2. Psych
How do I begin to describe Psych? It's a perfect combination of smart and silly. Most crime/murder-mystery shows are just way too serious. Pysch, however, handles it with full blown humor and well-written witty lines. I love how Psych can keep you guessing and laughing.

Whip: Turns out he was killed with cyanide by a dwarf before he ever even got on that tractor. They never caught that little fellow.

Shawn: Are you saying the dwarf is still at large?

-Psych, Season 6, Autopsy Turvy

3. Dexter
This show can bring me to becoming both enthralled and disgusted. How can someone love a forensic blood splatter analyst turned serial killer at night? Perhaps, it's because at some point in our lives, there will come a time that we wish for a hero (or an antihero, for this matter) when the justice system fails. And Dexter is the perfect man for it. He is the neatest murderer. He has a code to kill only the bad guys. He has a discipline. He's a good brother, friend, and co-worker. No wonder, he's very likable despite the heinous character. Although, had he been a real life entity, I think I'd freak out. Haha.

"The body forms scar tissue to close a wound. Eventually, scars fade. Who knows, with enough time you may not even remember how you got them." -Dexter Morgan

4. Suits
Aside from having the main characters (Harvey and Mike) being total eye-candies, the show is brilliant. Okay, this isn't just another Law/Legal tv show with a serious substance. Come on, get over that. You'll enjoy this even though you aren't familiar with US legalities, law, and all that jazz. Its clever, sharp, and witty banters will definitely get you hooked. And there's definitely a lot to learn from it, and one is, you should always be one step ahead. :)

And if I were a male, I would take Harvey's word not to wear a damn skinny tie to work.

"Winners don´t blame the ball, or the rim, or the wind speed." -Harvey Specter

5. Death Note (Animated Series)
I am not really into animes. But this is the only anime series that made me skip my classes back in college for two straight days - that's how I was completely blown away. Awesome and compelling would an understatement. Death Note is genius. This psychological thriller doesn't have a lot of physical action in it because it is almost entirely mental and conversational. It keeps your mind f*cked and blown. You cannot help but admire the characters' logical and rational way of thinking. It's one of the most intelligent tv/anime series I've seen in my life.

"Sometimes, the questions are complicated - and the answers are simple." -L Lawliet

6. Avatar: The Last Airbender
I love that this kid's show is for everyone. I mean every-effin-one, including the 30-year old me. I just re-watched this a few weeks ago. And amazingly, it still kept me glued for three days.

"In the darkness, hope is something you give yourself." - Zuko

7. Futurama
Why would I not love Futurama? It feeds my insatiable hunger for Science and Fiction, and Science-Fiction. Although there's nothing really scientific here. And by scientific I mean, something that can be logically explained by Science. Haha. But anyway, the great thing is, this doesn't just appeal to sci-fi lovers. The characters are absolutely ridiculous, the lines are witty and funny, and the show is entirely original - I believe these are the qualities that make Futurama absolutely enjoyable. Matt Groening is a genius.

"Why not Zoidberg?" -Zoidberg

8. House MD
Why does everyone hate antisocial jerks but not Gregory House? Perhaps because he's Hugh Laurie. Haha. Well, one of the reasons why I got hooked with House is that it uses medical jargons; and as someone who has studied in the field of medicine for 4 years, I can always relate to it and I would feel pretty smart knowing those terms they used. And of course, I get to learn something too.

Although with all honesty, if I pursued Nursing and worked in the medical field, I have no desire in meeting someone like House. God-forbid I'd lose my license for punching a doctor twice in the face.

If nobody hates you, you're doing something wrong. - Gregory House

9. The Vampire Diaries
I'm not really into vampires, especially after the horror of Twilight that is. But I have got to admit, I am fangirling in this series. Damon Salvatore is hot. Need I say more?

"What`s so special about this Bella girl? Edward`s so whipped." -Damon Salvatore

10. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Being a 90s kid, I couldn't forget how this series has blown my 9-year old self away. Everything was fun and the fighting scenes were great back then. Although, I have to admit, re-watching this as an adult would take things around. So I'd rather not do that. I would expect horrible acting, lousy action scenes, and really cheesy dialog it makes you puke. But hey, to a kid, this was the coolest thing in the world. So yeah, I wouldn't actually mind putting this in my top ten list because it is one of those things that made my childhood awesome.

"It's morphin time!" - Jason, Red Ranger

I am not hooked at anything at the moment. But I'm eyeing Homeland, How to Get Away with Murder, and perhaps Dr. Who. And the Game of Thrones will have to wait until the entire series is complete. Hehe. How about you? What are your favorite tv series?

  7. I used to watch TV series before, but only Charmed, Smallville, CSI Las Vegas, and Meteor Garden. Haha! But, now, parang wala na time since I became a mom, and CSI must be too gory for the kids.

  9. Why do you have so many TV series movie when in fact you don't like to see a movie? Watching TV in general is too boring, of course. However, if you have a clear grasp or read a very good review of the movie, for sure, you can't wait to see it.

  13. I've checked your list and I haven't watched any of those. I'm not really into series because like you, I hate waiting. If I like something, I wait till it is available online so I can watch and watch until I finish it. Walang bitin moment.

  14. I don't really watch any series anymore because I ran out of choices. This is the perfect list to look at. I think I'll start with Suits and Futurama. They sound good. :) Thanks for sharing.

  15. Great idea but I'm afraid none of yours would make my top ten. I'm more comedy so it would be stuff like "The Big Bang Theory".

  16. I love suits too!!! I think this is the only TV series in your list that I watch.

  17. Some of those are my favorites too!- Dr. House, The Last Airbender, and Suits. I love how everyone dresses on that one! Why are all the characters so stylish?
I started watching the Last Airbender with my kids, and I got hooked too. There was a follow-up series, The Legend of Korra, and it just wasn't as good. Not at all.
And who doesn't love Dr. House? He rules! It's never lupus lol

  19. gave me an idea! at first I thought I wouldn't relate to your top 10 since the first ones are TV series (well, as you have explicitly mentioned "TV" Series). But when I saw the Death Note and The Last Airbender, it feels like I want to give you a high five, fist bump and... thumb bump? Haha!
