If zombies were to chase me, I only have a 300-meter chance to run for my life. Anything farther than that does not guarantee my survival.
Because I hate to admit this, I AM NO LONGER FIT AS I WAS BEFORE.

With the series of strong earthquakes happening in our city, I thought I'd never go braless inside our home again. I hate bras not only because they are uncomfortable but I also had to deal with the trouble of trying to tug my boobies back into their proper positions as if they are always on an escape mission every time I have a bra on. But with what's happening the past few days, I had to imprison these lady bumps lest I risk running out of the house in my loose, ragged shirt with the nips underneath begging for attention again.
Okay, I think I said too much but let this be clear that I'm not here to talk about bras and boobies.

BUT THAT WAS IT.
I had no savings at all. I guess it's because I do not have the balls to do a walk of shame away from restaurants after seeing menu prices that trigger temporary paralysis. I also blame it to these shopping apps where they lure you to spend "less" on every sale event that happens every freakin month. Funny I don't actually have expensive items, high-end gadgets, and whatnot. But I do have these small and insignificant things that I bought at the thought that it does not really affect my salary. Phone cases, pens and notebooks that I do not use, or 90 pairs of chopsticks, for example. And lastly, the one that takes a large chunk of my income is my love for traveling. And I do it quite a lot compared to most nine-to-five employees in my generation.
It has been a week since our wedding books arrived and I cannot get over it. I've already wasted hours flipping the pages and ogling at the same thing for days, and it still was not enough.
I can't help it. Our wedding is no doubt one of the best days of my life and that is probably because it was then when I have seen Jan do a dirty dance in front of me in public. You might be wondering what's the big deal about that? Well, he doesn't know how to dance, he was not drunk but he did it anyway because men do things they don't do even if it looks silly in the name of love, don't they? Haha!
Anyway, here's a flip through of our beautiful wedding book:

Korea is going to be our next destination. And honestly, I was not that interested. Especially after having been told quite a lot of times that Korea might be underwhelming for someone who has already visited Japan.
Despite that, I have found myself binge-watching Korea travel vlogs of unknown vloggers. And it has surprisingly gotten me excited to fly there for three reasons: alpacas, raccoons, and meerkats. Okay, that is not nearly close to the things that come to mind when we speak of Korea. But whatever's on that list certainly made me excited to see the Land of the Morning Calm and that could only mean one thing.
Having something to be excited about guarantees a full blown anxiety on our visa application. And it does not end there. The Korean Embassy extended their processing time from 4-7 days to to 25-30 working days. That's 30 freakin days of enduring the agony of waiting.
BUT WAIT! THAT IS NOT EVEN THE WORST PART YET.

I couldn’t think of a better title but after posting my skincare routine, I was asked to try a line of whitening products in exchange for a promotion or a review. I politely declined. For the record, I have nothing against whitening products and people who want to whiten their skin. Do whatever makes you happy.
As for me, I've already seen myself in my ghostly form. All thanks to my mom's phone that seem to shoot photos with a hundred layers of filters on by default.

I have always wanted my skin to look radiant and healthy but the idea of a 10-step skincare overwhelms me and I cannot be bothered to have such extensive routine because I do not have the time I am lazy.
When I started to look for products I could use, I realized that I had no idea what my skin type was. I did tons of "research" and experimented on a few different products. And like anybody who is just starting skincare, I am reluctant to invest on expensive products. Luckily, I did not have to go great lengths to actually see good results.
I'm not here to endorse a brand nor convince you to use the products I use because I’m fairly new to this. There could be a thousands of options that I do not know of out there. But when people compliment me, they also ask what I use for my face. So I just want to share what has truly helped me achieve a healthier, glowing skin. Here's the skincare regimen I tailored for my skin needs (dry, morena skin) that I find simple yet effective.

I am getting addicted to boots.
I find this funny, ridiculous, and stupid because I am living in a hot, humid, tropical country where boots are an abomination. And I got 3 pairs!
But before you raise an eyebrow on me for having 3 freakin' pairs that is more useless than a white crayon, let me tell you how it started.
I bought my first pair because I needed one for a Farm-themed party.
I got these ankle boots on sale for P899 (from P1,899). To save this from becoming a single-wear item like how most boots tend to be, I used this in my travels to Taiwan and Japan. It is not as comfy as any of my sneakers (duh), but it does not hurt my feet and that is important. It does well in long walks. The only thing that makes me want to take it off is the annoying tapping sound it makes everytime I walk.

Oh Deer!
If there's one thing I love about Japan, it is the people. They are the kindest, most disciplined, and most respectful people I have ever met. And quite surprisingly, the deer in Nara are just as polite as the locals. As a matter of fact, these critters are far more polite than half the people you meet.Kidding? Perhaps not.
The deer poses better than I do. |
Davao City — Ever thought of trading the hustle and bustle city life for a day or two of unplugging without having to go too far? There’s no bad time for a relaxing escape to the Tengoku Japanese House. Situated not too far away from Eden Nature Park, this charming two-bedroom Japanese-inspired house calls for guests to unplug, reconnect with nature, and rediscover peace and quiet.

Jan and I cried the other night.
"I am so blogging this," I laughed while I stupidly wiped away the tears with the same hands I used to slice the onions. Gawd, that hurt terribly.
"Yeah. Why aren't you blogging about sh*t like this anymore?" the husband asked.
But that's because of a freakin onion that stings more than any of the hundreds of onions I've cut in my entire life. I have never been terrorized by anything, not even by my mom who recounted those embarrassing moments during my teen years in my wedding, until this one.

When we booked our flight to Japan, it just happened that we took advantage of a seat sale, chanced upon a very cheap flight to Narita, and booked it right away. Plus, the timing couldn't be any more perfect for Jan’s birthday. It never occurred to us that it's going to be the most anticipated and most visited sakura season.
I got so excited when I learned about it and started reading about these famed cherry blossoms only to end up a little disappointed about the fact that these pink delicate flowers bloom for just a week. Early April is the best time to see the sakuras this year according to blooming predictions. And since we will be arriving two weeks earlier, the chances of seeing these in full bloom are slim.
On our first day, we have already seen a few budding sakuras on some streets. Even Hachiko's statue stood under the sakura trees. It wasn't that impressive, yet. But it's promising and we were hoping to see them bloom in a riot of pink hues.
So we visited two parks, Chidorigafuchi (ten-minute walk from our hotel) and Yoyogi Park, which are best known for hanami (flower viewing). Even though each park offers a charming scenery of spring, not one sakura tree has a single flower on sight yet.
Tokyo is currently my favorite city (next to Davao, of course). I'm not really huge on highly-urbanized cities. Skyscrapers and cityscapes don't fascinate me. But Tokyo offers more than the high tech toilets, electronics, Anime, and manga. It's where you get the best of modern and historical worlds at the same time.
We went to Japan for Jan's birthday which is just in time for spring. And since it was only the first official day of spring when we landed, the weather was still chilly and temperatures dropped to as low as 4°C. I actually thought that I was prepared for that. I had 3 layers of clothes (base thermal, thick sweater, winter coat/jacket) and it still wasn't enough. Tagos sa buto ang lamig.
Nonetheless, we had a great time! To be honest, I can still recall almost everything that happened, but I don't think I will be able to narrate the details of our adventure. Although it's not a surprise that this trip is not well-documented, I'll let the pictures speak for it (yes, yes, lame excuse for being lazy).
(Note to self: next time, Sarah, please take a lot of photos so that you won't have a hard time looking for decent photos for the blog)
Our first agenda the night we got in Tokyo was, of course, to eat authentic ramen. After checking in at Sakura Hotel in Jimbocho, we went straight to Shibuya and took some photos of Hachiko and Shibuya crossing.
There were a lot of people around Hachiko's statue. But surprisingly, there were more locals than tourists who were just hanging around. Even though there was a flock, it wasn't really that hard to take a photo with Hachiko.

Where to Find Snow Resorts Near Osaka (Our First Snow Experience)
By Sarah Aterrado - July 23, 2019
When we went to Japan last March, it was transitioning from winter to spring. That means, we were able to experience both snow and sakura season at the same time.
You see, even though the season was leaning toward spring, a deep-rooted fascination for snow has definitely gotten my mind fixed to experience snow by any possible means. Well, you must understand that this utmost desire to see snow is coming from someone who has spent an entire life in a tropical country and has never seen one. This Japan trip—that happens once in a blue moon—was my chance.

I went to the ukay-ukay the other day and scored this mint condition leather jacket that fits me perfectly for only eighty pesos. Eighty pesos!
I proceeded to a nearby mini grocery afterwards to buy something and left the prized ukay-ukay at the baggage counter where you can just put your things in a box and trust that nobody else will get them. Of course, I've been there a lot of times and so far, no one has taken away my stuff.
I bought the things I needed, went back to the baggage counter, and to my dismay, my jacket was gone! There was a similar red sando bag that's left there but it was full of children's clothes. No one claimed it. So I figured, whoever owned that bag accidentally picked mine. I told the staff to send me a text message in case the owner returns my jacket and claim hers (yes, I assumed she's a mom who bought clothes for her kid).

Day 2 came and still no word from them. So I guess, the jacket is not coming back.
Honestly, losing eighty pesos is not a big deal for me. What upsets me the most is that it's not all the time you can score an expensive item that's rock-bottom cheap. I really hate this word but, sayang. Bihira lang yung ganon.
I could sulk all I want for losing something I've always wanted to have and probably will never have unless I see another one from the thrift shop (brand new leather jackets are expensive and cheap leather jackets in mint condition are elusive) but that's only going to draw negative energy. I believe in the Law of Attraction. Positive thoughts can draw positive energy, leading to positive events in life. With that kind of mindset, I have easily moved on and decided that the leather jacket is not what I really need for our Korea trip that's happening in four months. Excited masyado, te? Haha.
I might have lost a jacket BUT on the bright side, I am one of the chosen bloggers invited by Uniqlo for a styling event with Pia Wurtzback and stylist/designer Bea Constantino, leading to the reopening of their biggest store in Mindanao this July 19, 2019. I am a fan of this brand so this is huge for me. And who knows? Maybe I can score the perfect outfit for autumn from there.
I guess, this is the universe's way of saying that if you lose something, you'll definitely gain something much better—as long as you think and act positive because that's how the Law of Attraction works. 😉
Update:
Day 3, the jacket was returned. Now all I have to worry about is how to clean the thing without ruining it. 😅
Sending out positive vibes to everyone! Have a nice day!

I really should take styling seriously. Ever since I've been doing this, more doors have been opened for me. Btw, my coat is also from ukay-ukay, P30. |

"Have you had your dinner already?" Mama asked.
"Yes," Red replied.
"Was it delicious?"
"Yes! Where did you buy it?"
That would have been an insult. It certainly is my son's indirect way of saying that I cannot make something appetizing. I couldn't blame him though. For ten years he tolerated my awful concoctions. But! Being introduced to bad food early on is one of the reasons why he is not a picky eater, or so I would like to believe. Motherhood did not really put my mediocre cooking skills into practice. Give my son some green, leafy salad with bagoong (kangkong, squash leaves, or kamote, topped with tomato and onions) and he will eat it right away. So why bother with a complicated recipe?

"How does it feel like?"
"Nothing has really changed," I said flatly.
"Wait until the honeymoon phase is over."
I have been asked this question over and over again for weeks now and I have been repeating my answer with the same flat face. And it is not because I am less enthusiastic about it. It is just that, I do not want to engage in a conversation and delve into details about the brutal truths I wished somebody told me about before getting married.

My heart had been broken terribly when the owl carrying my Hogwarts acceptance letter lost its way (must have been held up in Customs 😂). I thought I would never know my magical powers. But here I am, saved from eternal despair. For those who are still waiting for that letter, here is your salvation.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter (WWoHP) will get you completely swept up in magic. I was and I cannot get enough of it! The moment we started walking into the woods with the familiar music playing in the background, nostalgia washed over me and I knew we were no longer in Universal Studios.

Right after the wedding, Jan and I started working our arses off (pitiful, I know). We were not able to plan a honeymoon because the Japan trip happened. And as much as we would have loved to make Batanes our honeymoon destination, we are holding that off. You see, I won a round trip domestic flight ticket. And knowing that a one-way ticket to Batanes could cost as much as a round trip flight to a few Southeast Asian countries, I am hoping I could use that free flight for it.
Anyway, it has been a month since the wedding and we haven't really planned on anything. That, however, does not mean that a honeymoon is not bound to happen. It might come a little late but at least, it’s going to be in a beautiful country.

Our Semi-DIY, Simple But Lovely, Cheap But Not Tacky Wedding
By Sarah Aterrado - June 04, 2019
But we all know that even the simplest weddings can burn a huge chunk of money—in a blink of an eye at that. Budget was a big deal for us. And since we splurged on travel and made a trip to Japan just a little over a month before the wedding (hashtag that, priorities hehe), we decided to scrimp on some wedding details.
Don't get us wrong. We want our wedding day to be special. It's just that, extravagance isn't really our cup of tea.
I just wish I have the makeup artist skills so I can transform my face into something better and more tolerable to look at every time I get fed up with my face that's as bland as the miso soup I made so I can leave my hair alone. Because, well, haircuts cannot be undone.
You know how I get perpetually bored with my looks that I would cut my hair on my own from time to time.

How to Make the Most Out of Your Trip to Singapore's Trick Eye Museum
By Sarah Aterrado - May 24, 2019
When we went to Singapore the second time, we made sure we would avail of attractions that are fun, interesting, and most importantly, family-friendly. Attractions in Sentosa can be pretty pricey especially when you do multiple activities in a day. But you can book tickets online that offer cheaper packages. So we purchased a Sentosa Fun Pass (Play 3) where we can choose 3 activities from a list of 20 attractions, valid for one day. It is much cheaper than purchasing attractions separately.
We decided to go for these activities:
1. Trick-eye Museum (1 credit)
2. S.E.A. Aquarium & Royal Albatross Tour (2 credits)
Honestly, if I had it my way, I would ditch the Royal Albatross Tour. It's only a 15-minute tour on a classic sailboat. There's nothing much to see in there. But since it is in combo with the S.E.A. Aquarium, we had no choice.
Anyway, let's get to the fun part.

The last time my name was printed on a local newspaper was in high school (about 16 years ago) when my football team won against a college team and the two scorers' names were mentioned. That was a huge deal back then.
Right now, where the generation is more fragile than a snowflake, the least you would want is attention from people you do not know. This blog has gone viral once. With at least 27,000 shares, the post has gotten at least a hundred thousand hits per day. And even with it being a considerably good read, I've received grave threats more than once.
The succeeding posts in this blog would most probably be all about our wedding because, honestly, I have not gotten over it yet. Our wedding is nothing short of amazing. It is magical but it's real. It's simple but it's the best. It's cheap (by current standards) but it's definitely full of love.
Here's the same-day edit video made by Love Dot Date Production. I love everything about it and it melts my heart every time I hear Jan's vows.

The Wedding Diaries: From Miss to Missus! (Unofficial Wedding Photos)
By Sarah Aterrado - May 06, 2019
Hello everyone! I'm back to reality... but in a much better reality despite going back to a monstrous work load needed to be done pronto. I'm finally married to my travel buddy, my soul mate, my best friend!
I know this blog still has a lot of catching up to do, but for now, I'd like to share our special day as captured by our lovely guests:

Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope nope nope nope nope nope nope.
That's what I keep telling myself every time I come across a hashtag for the wedding.
One friend suggested #anJANnasiSARAH.
Big NOPE.

Less than 20 days before the big day and I have finally felt a tinge of pressure.
I thought we have already settled almost everything when I realized there are a few more things needed to make our wedding personal and extra special. I know we want to keep things simple, but here I am, lumalabas na ang kaartehan ko.
Ang dami ko palang gusto, si Jan napapakamot na lang ng ulo. Here are some:

All this time I thought wedding preps are unbearably stressful it can bring out that bridezilla in you. But that is not the case.
You see, we only have less than a month to prepare. With Saturdays as our only free time, technically, we only have 3 days to iron everything out. We are still looking for a cake, our custom wooden guestbook is yet to be created, our guest list has not been finalized yet, I lost our wedding ring holder (the one I carved our names on), our marriage license is yet to be released, we're in the middle of printing our invitations, and we still got a few more items to be ticked off our checklist. But! We already have our shoes and that is good enough for us. Haha.

Jan and I are planning to apply for a South Korea visa this year, anticipating a 20% rejection rate.
Funny thing is, South Korea isn't really on top of our travel list. And I think that's because our souls have not been sucked into this Korean fandom abyss. Thank heavens!

Kpop, Kdrama, nor Korean food isn't our cup of tea. But we will still fly there for the love of travel. And as much as we want to tick New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii, or Europe off our list first, Korea is what our broke asses can afford for now.
We have a lot of catching up to do. I hate not writing about the shiznit happening in my life because that's what this blog is supposedly for. But this is what happens when you have a counterproductive after-work hobby. I get mentally drained every time I get off work that I wouldn't have enough strength to do anything else but ogle over videos of cats being adorable and jerks.
But also, I just came home from my best vacation yet. Jan and I couldn't get over it that we still talk about our escapade and eat ramen at local shops even if it pales in comparison to the real ones. Yes, a few days ago, we were in Japan.

Jan and I went to the casa last Saturday for Bill's periodic maintenance service (PMS). Since we still have 2 hours to spare before our turn, we decided to go to SM to pass time and browse for wedding rings.
We went inside Odysseus Suarez and I was glad to see the same friendly man who accommodated us before. Initially, Jan and I wanted platinum rings but since we’re not some senator's kid who can easily burn at least 80k for these tiny handcuffs (the design we wanted costs around 100k), we settled for the poor man's version of platinum instead, the white gold.

We still have a little more than three weeks before our next out-of-the-country trip and I've already packed. Excited? Yes! And that is an understatement. In fact, I am too excited that I almost forgot I'm in the middle of wedding preparations that I left everything on pause since we got our visas approved. Hashtag that, priorities. Duh.
Jan and I went shopping for down jackets at Uniqlo yesterday. We were quite pleased that they got almost everything on sale.
He scored an ultralight down jacket for only P1,990. Not bad, I must say. And he was quick to shop. Unlike me, I was torn between colors that it took me quite some time to choose. Picture this, if we were in the battlefield, Jan already got his target acquired with a shot gun and his finger on the trigger. I, on the other hand, will be killed before I even got to choose what weapon to use (mind you, by standards, I shop faster than 90% of girls).

The women's jackets were also down to only P1,490. But I never really thought both excitement and frustration can occur to me at the same time. While almost everything was on sale, the jacket that came in my favorite color was still tagged at a regular price (P3,490). Bummer.
There's no way I'm going to buy a 3k worth of item that I could use probably once or twice in every two years. I was about to settle halfheartedly for the cute red one (don't get me wrong, I love red) when I, like any other female, hopped from one rack to another at the risk of buying more things I don't apparently need.
And I'm glad I did.
I found the same jacket in my favorite color at the kid's section for only P990!

After days of anxious anticipation and nights of reading horror stories of rejection and denial, Jan and I reached the highest level of excitement when we received our passports with approved visas yesterday that we did not feel the strong earthquake that shook our city.
You see, the biggest fear for a would-be and even a seasoned traveler with a weak passport is not getting lost in a foreign country. It is getting denied of visa or worse, getting offloaded in the immigration.
And for someone who does not have a normal and stable office job, having an approved visa, especially in one of the G7 countries, is such a share worthy success story for me. And I think I have to prepare myself for more "the anticipation is killing me" moments because that is just one of the many visa applications that we'll have to go through.

You know how I still get "judged" for being skinny despite my reputation of being a voracious eater and having a flabby midsection (that's about 2 inches of pinchable flab, I kid you not).
"Kain ka ng marami. Mas maganda kung magkalaman ka ng konti."
Not that I take offense at such. But I'm sick of explaining that I don't go on a diet or that it runs in the blood, yadda yadda. So before anyone strikes me again with remarks about being underfed, malnourished, and that I should go get a quarter pounder, let me tell you this: I would eat the next person who will tell me that I look better with more meat.
I dare thee.

I took a day off from work last Monday so I could dedicate my day for the visa and wedding preparations. What I planned was to get my PSA birth certificate (BC) in the morning and meet with our coordinator and photographer in the afternoon.
Three of my friends told me it only took them two to three hours to get their certificates at PSA. So I took the shot of getting the BC myself since it's also the cheapest way. I only had three things on my to-do list, I figured I can still do some shopping for crafting materials since I have the entire day for myself.

That I apparently forgot to post.
And I'd like you to believe I was busy.

Jan and I visited our future home yesterday and we're so happy about the progress.
See?
Knowing how real estate development works here, one could say that that's a lot of progress.
Haha. I'm really looking forward to the day we move in because finally *drum roll* I will have a custom bookshelf/mini library! But before I start with anything for our home, I still have a wedding to plan. We haven't made a lot of progress and we only have four months! And what's worse, I still have to decide which five out of a hundred wedding DIY ideas are realistic enough for me to actually attempt to do.
May the gods of patience and creativity be ever in my favor.
P.S. Hey Chronos, please bestow me with a lot of time too because I'm also having Japanese lessons in between.

The Wedding Diaries: DIY Bridal Bouquet Using Fake Flowers and Recycled Materials
By Sarah Aterrado - January 03, 2019
I would have loved to write about the 2018 that has been awesome or whatever topic that's fitting for the new year but I am more excited to share this with you.
You see, I never really thought a bridal bouquet can cost so much. Php 5,000-7,000 seriously?! No, thanks.
Today, I decided to create my own bridal bouquet because aside from the fact that we'd rather spend our money on more important things like a fridge full of frozen yogurt, I was bored as hell as well.
Plus, crafting things makes me feel giddy all the time.
So here's what boredom got me:
