Fangirling?

A remember back when I was at a fastfood resto with friends when, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed someone asking another person for a photo outside. He doesn't come across my feed (thank heavens!) but I recognized the content creator right away because the media pages I follow feature him whenever he makes a huge blunder or issues a public apology. Soon after, two more people took selfies with him. A friend turned to me and sarcastically asked, "Magpapic ka?" (Are you going to have your photo taken with him?)

Eew! Kita ka sa iyang content?" (Have you seen his content?)

Then another friend chimed in, "Cringe bitaw na siyag content. Ginasuka na man na siya Davao." (Yeah, his content is pretty cringe. Davao is sick of him.)

Apparently, while most people just ignored him, being approached by strangers out of nowhere for a selfie while you’re just going about your day shows you’re recognized for something. This content creator is still clearly famous. But here's the thing, his content are straight-up trash. And I say that with all due disrespect. Being racist to other nationals who are also living in the city, asking a woman if her boobs are real (actually, a lot of his content objectify women), then go "bless and love" in the end. WTF is that?!

I do not want to single out a content creator because there's many of them like him. It's just that, he showed up on my feed again for yet another public apology. So I guess, he got our attention (including mine) that he badly needed.

When will their kind ever stop? Never. They will do something stupid, get a backlash, apologize, and repeat. As long as people follow and applaud them, they'll be out there doing things for clout even at the expense of disrespecting others. If you're one of those who clap for the kind of content they make, I won't apologize when I say, it reflects your value as a person.

So yeah, who you choose to follow matters. The content creators we engage with shape not just our feeds, but often our perspectives, decisions, and even our self-worth. So before you follow, ask yourself: Is this someone I want living rent-free in my head?
