Ranked Mode: ON

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but whenever I get really into something, it somehow finds its way to my blog. There was a time when I blogged about my drawings, then a time when I blogged about blogging. Later, it was running. And now, apparently, I’m in my pickleball era.

So, it's no surprise that this post is about pickleball.

Again.

It has been six months since Jan and I started playing pickleball. We have improved a lot since then. And it's only yesterday when we decided to get DUPR rated.

DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) is basically a rating system for pickleball. You play games and your performance and results determine your rating. The more you play, the more the system gets an idea of your level. So if you're winning against stronger players, your rating can go up. If your results aren't as good, it can go down too.

Yesterday, we had our first ever DUPR games. Our only goal was to get above 3.0. But oh boy... Jan ended up with a 4.0, while I got a 3.8! That was waaay beyond what we were aiming for!

Of course, these are just our honeymoon ratings. Since these are our first few DUPR games, the system doesn’t have much data on us yet, so the initial rating can be higher. We just didn't expect it would be this high.

But I ought to play more DUPR matches because:

1. I want to get a better gauge of my actual playing level; and
2. I don't want people to expect something from a rated 3.8 player with a 3.0 (or below) actual skill level. (Some players don't bother to look at the reliability score. So if they see someone a 3.8, they expect you to play like a 3.8. Haha)

Or...

Maybe I should just train harder and work my way up to that 3.8. Haha. Might as well live up to the expectations.

Anyway, I’m just happy that something we picked up six months ago has become something both Jan and I genuinely enjoy. And if it keeps me moving, learning, and writing about it, then I suppose my pickleball era is far from over.
