Family Adventures in the Las Vegas of the East

This blog post is long overdue. And by long, I mean five months late. We actually went on this trip last February, and I’ve been meaning to write about it ever since. But you know how it goes, life happens and before you know it, months have passed.

What finally pushed me to sit down and write this is the fact that we just got back from another trip. And before I start talking about the white sand beaches of Boracay and completely forget about our Macau adventure, I figured it’s about time this one got its space on the blog.

So back in February, we took a big family trip to Hong Kong and made a side trip to Macau.

We did all the classic touristy stops. Took them to places Jan and I have been to: Macau Fisherman's Wharf, Senado Square, the famous Ruins of St. Paul’s, and of course the glitzy Cotai strip with its larger-than-life hotels, casinos, and more. The grown-ups enjoyed the sights and the photo ops. The kids, however, not so much.

For me, it turned out to be one of the most exhausting trips I’ve ever had. Don’t even get me started on Macau’s public buses. The drivers seemed to have this knack for taking sharp turns without slowing down, and every corner felt like a survival game. We were clutching onto whatever we could grab just to keep our balance. I was standing in a packed bus, carrying my 3-year-old daughter, all while my RA was threatening to flare up. I dreaded it and swore to never ride public buses in Macau again.

You might be wondering why post about it now when there’s really nothing too special about the trip to share? Honestly, it wasn’t the most exciting, Instagram-perfect, life-changing vacation. But I just want to document these memories on my blog. I haven’t really posted much about it on social media, and I know these little stories will mean something when I look back years from today.

And now, before the memories of Boracay start to take over my headspace, I’m glad I finally got this Macau story out.
